When two friends, Swarnabha Dey and Kaundinya Bose, struck up a conversation of raising funds and making a school for poor children, they were greeted only with ridicule and mockery. Loony, Unrealistic buffoons, money launderer… the world termed them with numerous sobriquets. There were a few who believed them but even they were cynic about the future. But those two lunatics didn’t get away with the dream. It was their sheer honesty and passion that started spreading among their peers and a gradual wave of doing the undoable started inculcating into these young minds.
Owing to their habit of going to villages and educating the under privileged children at free of cost since college days, these two boys were well aware of the extreme poverty of the tribe called SABAR. The two brought some of their friends in a drive of distributing old but usable winter garments and blankets to these needy people and the group from Kolkata was moved by their indigent condition. They decided to make a residential school (A place where they’ll stay and will be able to quench their hunger for food and knowledge both) for this unfortunates.
There begins the huge task of giving the children their birth right back. The task was hindered many a times by many circumstantial factors, but the group dealt all the obstacles with audacity and logical approach. And finally, a trust has been formed, they named it SABAR WELFARE TRUST. Gradually pan card, bank account for the trust were formed and the prime task of amassing money was accentuated. They were joined and actively supported by numerous people from all sections of the society. The primary support they received from a prominent person from the SABAR tribe itself. His name is Nirmal Sabar, 1st graduate from KHERIYA SABAR tribe, and the only living graduate in the entire SABAR tribe, a person who never accepted any job and stayed back in the village just for the welfare of his own people. And due to this cumulative and active support and blessings, the group conjured the penultimate magic by gathering 6 lakhs just in 1 month.
After the fund raising there comes the most important work of converting a dream into reality and here they won again by buying a land for the school in Sindri town, Purulia, completing the land registration and mutation and finally starting off the construction work for the school building. And finally after years of hardships, on 26th Jan, 2016, the school was inaugurated with an auspicious opening ceremony. Presently, the very first batch of students are brought in the school premises and the school is fully functional since that day.
The behemoth task of arranging funds is still being carried out in full swing. The support and response already received is overwhelming, but still there is a long way to go and for this , we need few more trustworthy hands.
